Homie skills
A skill is one specific thing Homie can help with. Some skills add a card, some help Homie answer or act, and some run on a schedule.

Homie skills are optional parts you can turn on when they are useful for your home. A skill might add a dashboard card, a setup screen, a chat action, or a scheduled check.
Skills are concrete. Weather is a skill. Calendar is a skill. A vague idea like 'make the home smarter' becomes useful only when it maps to a skill or a safe plan.
Homie can use the skills that are turned on, their setup status, their dashboard cards, and the safe actions each skill provides.
- Skill settings and connection health
- Connected account status where the household has granted access
- Skill-owned information such as recipes, deals, lights, or tracked topics
- The shared Skills overlay and dashboard cards
A skill does not bypass setup, permissions, approvals, or Homie's safety rules for saved information.
- It will not invent a missing account connection.
- It will not save official skill records as loose memory when a skill-owned place exists.
- It will not let a separate background helper change saved household information.
Some skills work with no setup. Others need a connected account, a trusted device, or a short setup screen. The Skills overlay shows whether a skill is turned on, connected, and healthy.
Skills follow Homie's normal privacy rules. Personal chats, mail, memories, and private projects stay with the right person unless you explicitly share them.
Start with the setup or identity question first. Most confusion in Homie comes from not knowing which device, person, room, or skill is in play.
- Start in the Skills overlay if you are not sure whether Homie knows a thing Homie can do.
- Use the specific skill name in chat when you want less ambiguity.
- If Homie says setup is missing, finish the skill setup before asking it to act.
Most Homie issues come from setup, identity, or approval state. Work through these checks before assuming Homie ignored the request.
- Check whether the device is trusted, claimed, and named correctly.
- Open the relevant settings or Skills card and confirm setup is complete.
- Try the same request with the exact device, member, room, or skill name.
Good to know: A missing skill tile usually means the skill is turned off, the platform does not support it, or setup is incomplete.
Homie on your Mac: Some skills can run scheduled checks on your household Mac. Those checks only change saved home information from the trusted home setup.
